* Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released its latest figures on foreign direct investment (FDI) which show that this totalled US$1.45bn in the first half of 2023, equivalent to 17.3% of GDP, and up 28.9% on the amount received in the same period of 2022. Of the total, US$476.8m represented reinvested earnings. Broken down by sector, the manufacturing industry accounted for US$236.2m (27.2%) of FDI, the energy & mining sector for US$214.8m (24.7%), trade & services for US$206.6m (23.8%), and the financial sector for US$102.8m (11.8%). As regards sources of FDI, US$178.7m (20.6%) came from the US, while Panama accounted for US$167.6m (19.3%), Spain for US$76.7m (8.8%), and Costa Rica for US$71.2m (8.2%).
