Former US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officer Derek Maltz shared a photo on social media on 16 September. “Welcome to America,” he wrote. “Enjoy the family reunion with your father.” The photo showed a bewildered looking bespectacled young man in a beige jumpsuit, hands cuffed before him. This rather unassuming looking individual was Ovidio Guzmán López, son of the infamous imprisoned former Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Loera, and one of the alleged leaders of the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa drug trafficking organisation (DTO).
