VENEZUELA: More questions than answers after Tren de Aragua crackdown

Over 11,000 members of the security forces were deployed to the Tocorón prison in the northern Venezuelan state of Aragua on 20 September in an operation targeting the largest organised crime group in the country, the Tren de Aragua, which has long had its headquarters in the prison. It later transpired that many high-ranking members of the criminal group, including its leader, managed to escape before the raid.
