BRAZIL: New public security plan unveiled

Brazil’s minister of justice & public security, Flávio Dino, announced on 2 October the launch of a new crime-fighting initiative aimed at combating criminal organisations, especially gangs active in drug trafficking around large port cities, such as Salvador, the capital of Bahia state. The federal government will increase funding for security forces and aim to improve collaboration with state police and other anti-gang authorities, amid recent concern about rising violence in Bahia.
