In brief: Peru announces auction for electricity connection projects

* Peru’s investment promotion agency (Proinversión) has announced that it will award contracts for two major electricity connection projects on 27 October, which it expects to attract over US$800m in investment. The two projects relate to the installation of approximately 1,044km of transmission cable, plus extensions and substations. The first of these, the Huánuco-Tocache-Celendín-Trujillo 500kw line, will establish a new electricity connection between central and northern Peru, linking the regions of Huánuco, San Martín, Cajamarca, and La Libertad. Proinversión is seeking US$561m in investment for this project. The second project, the Celendín-Piura 500kw transmission line, is valued at US$272m and will run from central Peru to the far north through the regions of Cajamarca, Amazonas, Lambayeque, and Piura.
