Mexico’s supreme court (SCJN) issued a landmark ruling easing access to abortion across the country on 6 September. The ruling, which states that it is unconstitutional to criminalise abortion in the federal criminal code, comes two years after another landmark SCJN ruling which led to a wave of state legislatures decriminalising abortion. Women’s groups and reproductive rights organisations have welcomed the decision.
