PARAGUAY: Peña’s uphill battle to tackle corruption

Paraguay’s new President Santiago Peña held a meeting on 20 August with the heads of other branches of government as well as judicial authorities overseeing anti-corruption measures. While Peña called for a “coordinated fight against corruption”, the new administration’s roadmap to combating corruption has met with scepticism from opposition parties and civil society groups – in particular, his controversial calls to dissolve the national anti-corruption secretariat (Senac).
