MEXICO: López Obrador seeks own solutions to migration crisis

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is preparing a regional proposal to address the migration crisis, which he plans on presenting to US President Joe Biden. This comes after López Obrador said he would not be attending the upcoming summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) group scheduled for 14-17 November in San Francisco, where a bilateral meeting was due to take place between Mexican and US leaders to discuss migration, among other things. In this way, López Obrador is signalling that the region’s approach to migration will be developed collaboratively and will not be dictated by the US.
