DOMINICAN REPUBLIC-HAITI: Diplomatic tensions rise

The Dominican government led by President Luis Abinader has sent a formal request to Haitian authorities demanding a halt to the construction of a canal taking place on a shared river. With Abinader threatening to close the border completely if action is not taken, the incident is the latest sign of tensions and frustration on the part of the Dominican government, which has been steadily bolstering security on its border in response to the escalating security crisis unfolding in Haiti.
