NICARAGUA: FTA signed with China
“A strategic step in the correct direction”. This was the recent response by Nicaragua’s minister of development, industry, and trade (Mific), Jesús Bermúdez, to Nicaragua’s inking of a free trade agreement (FTA) with China. However, sceptics question the benefits for Nicaragua of the deal which was signed more than 18 months after the establishment of relations with Beijing following Nicaragua’s decision to break ties with Taiwan.
