Peruvian government savaged for gastronomic blasphemy

Peru’s President Dina Boluarte is highly unpopular and will shortly become even more so. Even a popular government would struggle to weather news headlines alleging that it is buying vast quantities of lime shortly after the economy minister urged the public to consider alternatives to Peru’s national dish, ceviche, as the price of the fruit skyrocketed in August as a result of the impact of the El Niño weather phenomenon on crops.
