On 3 September Chile’s President Gabriel Boric said that his government was doing its level best to forge a political consensus behind a declaration in support of democracy and in defence of human rights ahead of the 50^th anniversary next weekend of the military coup led by General Augusto Pinochet but was being frustrated by the determination of “some sectors on the right” to engage in “dangerous historical revisionism”.
