In brief: Chile reports decrease in industrial production

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest figures for its index of industrial production (IPI), which show that the rate of industrial production has decreased by 1.7% year-on-year in June, as a result of negative trends in two of the three industries which are considered in the index. Manufacturing represented the most significant decrease, falling by 3.9% in comparison to June 2022, and the production of electricity, gas, and water fell by 0.8%, with electricity representing the largest decrease. By contrast, mining production increased by 0.6%, as a result of greater activity recorded in two of the three types of mining that make up the index, with metallic mining being the most significant contributor, which INE attributed to the increase in the extraction and processing of copper.
