In brief: Mexico’s inflation continues to slow

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released consumer price index figures for the first half of August, which shows inflation increasing by 0.32% as compared to the previous two-week period. With this result, annual inflation stands at 4.67%, its lowest level since March 2021. According to the report from Inegi, at this time in 2022, the two-week inflation rate was 0.42%, and the annual rate was considerably higher at 8.62%. The core price index, which discounts volatile items in its calculation, increased by 0.19% fortnight-to-fortnight, resulting in an annual rate of 6.21%. Within the core index, at the fortnightly rate the prices of merchandise rose by 0.16%, and the price of services rose by 0.23%.
