The divisions in Bolivia’s ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) are now stretching the party to breaking point. As the war of words heats up between MAS factions loyal to either President Luis Arce or former president Evo Morales (2006-2019), the next battleground could be a courtroom. Justice Minister Iván Lima has said that he will bring legal charges against Morales, who he is accusing of defamation.
