* Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña has announced a reduction in prices of fuel and gas sold by the state-owned oil company Petropar. Peña, who took office on 15 August, announced that the decreases would equate to 600 guaraníes (US$0.08) per litre in the price of diesel and gasoline, and of 1,500 guaraníes per kilogram of gas. On social media, Peña said the price reductions would be the first “of the many measures we are going to take so that Paraguayans can have more money in their pockets and be better off”. Peña also announced he had promulgated a law to create an economy and finance ministry, which fuses the finance ministry with the secretariat for economic and social development planning (STP) and secretariat for public administration (SFP).
