In brief: Dominican Republic hails rise in remittances

*The Dominican Republic’s central bank (BCRD) has released new figures which show that remittances sent to the country in the first seven months of 2023 totalled US$5.9bn, up 4.2% on the same period in 2022. The BCRD says that this increase is in line with forecasts that remittances will exceed US$10bn by the end of 2023. The BCRD also released figures which showed that remittances totalled US$889.4m in July, up 5.1% on the previous month and 10.0% compared with July 2022. In July the US was the source country for 82.6% of remittances sent, while Spain accounted for 6.8%.
