* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its figures for the services sector in June, which showed a growth rate of 0.2% from May. This latest monthly growth is lower than the 1.4% recorded in May, but a marked improvement from the 1.6% contraction in April. In its report, the Ibge noted that the figure for this June was 12.1% above the levels registered in February 2020, prior to the onset of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The accumulated growth rate for the first six months of 2023 was also 4.7% higher compared with the same period last year. For June 2023, three of the five categories saw a monthly rise in activity. Services for families saw the highest rise with 1.9%, followed by professional & administrative services (+0.8%) and information & communication services (+0.5%).
