COSTA RICA | Natural gas exploration. President Rodrigo Chaves said on 9 August that Costa Rica needed to have a national debate about natural gas exploration and exploitation. This would be a controversial issue anywhere amid climate change concerns and a global push to move away from fossil fuels and towards a green transition, but it is particularly so in Costa Rica, which prides itself on its global image, constructed over decades, of environmental conservation and ecosystem biodiversity.
