HONDURAS: Final shortlist submitted for key post

Honduras’s 128-member unicameral legislature has received the final shortlist of five names for the crucial post of attorney general. The submission of the list marks the latest stage of a process closely followed domestically and abroad given the importance of the post to declared efforts by the Partido Libertad y Refundación (Libre) government led by President Xiomara Castro to combat corruption. With the appointment, which requires a two-thirds majority of 86 for approval, due to be voted on before 1 September, negotiations are already under way in the legislature in which Libre lacks even a simple majority.
