MEXICO: Guerrero faced with more violent attacks

Mexico’s south-western state of Guerrero has faced a spike in violence in recent months, with several incidents targeting local government officials. On 6 August a relative of the state governor, Evelyn Salgado Pineda of the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party, was the victim of an armed attack in Iguala city. The incident, which has already had political repercussions, is a reminder of the increasing dangers facing many in the state.
