*Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has discounted the possibility of Mexico joining the BRICS group of countries, comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. In a regular press conference, López Obrador stated Mexico would continue to focus on its alliance with the US and Canada, under the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), as well as strengthening links with the Americas as a whole “for economic, neighbourly, and geopolitical reasons”. López Obrador stated that the Americas as a region should strive for “something similar to the European Union” due to the potential for economic and commercial unity, and the exchange of natural resources, technology, and labour force.
