MEXICO: Ayotzinapa report raises transparency concerns

A panel of international, independent experts investigating the infamous Ayotzinapa case presented its final report on 25 July and announced its withdrawal from the case, signalling that the lack of access to key information has made continuing the investigation impossible. The withdrawal of the inter-disciplinary group of independent experts (GIEI), which was initially assigned by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to investigate the 2014 abduction of 43 trainee teachers from Ayotzinapa college, Guerrero state, is another blow to the investigation into the case, which has been plagued by setbacks in the past year [WR-22-39].
