Gov’t open to negotiation over fiscal reform. On 20 July, Chile’s economy minister, Nicolás Grau, said that the government led by President Gabriel Boric was open to dialogue and was prepared to be “flexible” in negotiations over its fiscal reform proposals. Fiscal reform is crucial for financing President Boric’s government plan. However, a reform draft submitted by the government to congress earlier this year did not receive sufficient support from the legislature to advance, forcing the government back to the drawing board.
