BRAZIL: Lula tightens gun regulations

A key objective of the right-wing former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) was expanding civilian access to firearms, a legacy which his successor Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has sought to undo. On 21 July, President Lula signed a decree which tightened gun control, as well as announcing other security initiatives aimed at addressing concerns such as attacks on schools and on democratic institutions.
