* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published new data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial production increased by 1% in May 2023 as compared to the previous month. This follows a monthly increase of 0.4% in April and a decrease of 0.9% in March. Activity in construction was up 7.2% in monthly terms in May, while utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas) increased 1.8%, mining by 1.7%, while manufacturing was down 1.4%. In seasonally adjusted annual terms, industrial production rose by 2.8% in May 2023 as compared to May 2022, with construction up 8.1%, mining up 5.1%, utilities up 1.7% and manufacturing up 0.3%.
