* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest employment figures, which showed an unemployment rate of 8.3% for the March-May quarter, down from the 8.6% unemployment registered for the December-February quarter. The latest figure also marks a yearly decrease from the 9.8% unemployment registered in March-May 2022. However, Ibge research coordinator Adriana Beringuy tempered the optimism about the falling unemployment rate by highlighting that some sectors, such as the category of agriculture, livestock farming, forestry, fishing, and aquaculture (-1.9%), saw a drop in the number of employed workers. Public sector jobs meanwhile registered a 2.8% rise in quarterly terms.
