MEXICO: Incorruptible armed forces?
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador often justifies the additional duties and powers the armed forces have gained during his administration by claiming the defence ministry (Sedena) is incorruptible. However, recent investigations by local anti-corruption NGO Mexicanos contra la Corrupción y la Impunidad (MCCI) challenge such claims. The investigations concern alleged corruption by the head of Sedena himself, General Luis Cresencio Sandoval.
