Since the 11 May lifting of US federal order Title 42, authorities in both the US and Mexico have touted a decrease in irregular migration. On 31 May, Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that migration flows had “reduced considerably” in the past month. This was backed up by figures released by the US Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) on 20 June which showed there had been a “significant reduction” in encounters with migrants at the border since 11 May.
