Late on 26 June, six new decrees appeared in Mexico’s official gazette (DOF). Through the decrees, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ordered the expropriation of over 400 hectares (ha) of land for the construction of his Tren Maya tourist railway project. The expropriations, which concern land and assets in the southern states of Quintana Roo and Campeche, come a month after the seizure of over 120km of railway in Veracruz state for another of the president’s flagship railway projects [WR-23-21].
