PERU: Coca cultivation shifting eastwards to new markets

Illegal coca cultivation expanded significantly in Peru in 2022, according to figures released by the government’s anti-drug agency Devida this week. The number of hectares given over to illicit coca leaf production almost reached six figures, Devida reported, with the areas of fastest growth appearing to confirm a shifting dynamic in the global drug market to which transnational criminal groups have adapted.
