* Ecuador’s constitutional court (CC) has struck down a decree law issued by President Guillermo Lasso which would have established duty-free zones aimed at boosting investment, although it upheld a separate decree law that modified the tax regime. The CC ruled that the investment decree breached Article 148 of Ecuador’s constitution, which allows Lasso to issue decree laws only on matters of “economic urgency” in the interim between his dissolution of congress on 17 May and the inauguration of the next president following the 20 August general elections.
