First sentence handed down in relation to Moïse murder

A US federal judge sentenced Rodolphe Jaar, a Haitian-Chilean businessman, to life imprisonment on 2 June for his role in the July 2021 assassination of Haiti’s former president Jovenel Moïse (2017-2021). Ten others are facing charges in the US in connection with Moïse’s killing, which has plunged Haiti into political chaos and unleashed gang violence, but Jaar is the first to be convicted and sentenced.
