EL SALVADOR: Former president Funes sentenced over gang truce
On 29 May a judge handed down a 14-year prison sentence to El Salvador’s former president Mauricio Funes (Frente Farabundo Martí de Liberación Nacional, 2009-2014), and an 18-year prison sentence to former minister of security (2011-2013) and defence (2009-2011, 2013-2019), David Munguía Payés, for unlawful association and dereliction of duty.
