Nicaragua’s strengthening ties with Moscow and Beijing

Nicaragua has been bolstering relations with Russia and China as the US has imposed multiple rounds of sanctions, citing ongoing human rights abuses taking place under the government led by President Daniel Ortega. However, it remains unclear whether these deepening alliances would be able to compensate for a complete cessation in relations with Washington, which remains Nicaragua’s largest trading partner.
