A series of prominent figures in Mexico’s government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador have spoken out in recent days to criticise remarks made by a US Republican senator. Senator John Kennedy implied that Mexico would be nothing without its proximity to the US and suggested the US government led by President Joe Biden should force Mexico into allowing the US military to fight Mexican drug trafficking organisations (DTOs).
