Already facing a raft of investigations, Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) testified on 16 May at his third police deposition since returning from the US. This time for a probe into an alleged scheme to tamper or forge coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine records, a criminal scheme for which his former personal aide, Lieutenant-colonel Mauro Cid, had already been arrested on 3 May. Since Cid was arrested and his phone was seized, the federal police (PF) have gained access to a trove of messages and voice notes, including potentially incriminating recordings, about which Bolsonaro was questioned during his deposition, as some of these included comments relevant to other investigations involving him and his inner circle.
