*Costa Rica’s coffee institute, Instituto del Café de Costa Rica (Icafe), has released new figures which show that the 2022-2023 harvest (which ran October 2022 to March 2023) of 1.9m ‘fanegas’ (a standard unit of measure for coffee in Costa Rica where one fanega = 45kg) was up 14.14% on the previous 2021-2022 harvest. According to an Icafe press release, there are over 26,000 coffee producing families in the country. Icafe attributes the result to a combination of “cutting edge technology, application of sustainable agricultural practices and dedication of producers”.
