Peru’s congress spares Boluarte on grounds of preserving stability

Peru has had six presidents in the last five years. There is no immediate prospect of it getting a seventh. Perus congress voted on 4 April against admitting a motion of impeachment against President Dina Boluarte. Left-wing parties in congress tabled the motion to impeach Boluarte for permanent moral incapacity” over the high number of fatalities in the anti-government protests that erupted after the impeachment of Pedro Castillo in December last year. But the motion was blocked by mainly right-wing parties, and archived. The vote confirmed that Boluarte is now being sustained by the right and reviled by the left for which she was elected.
