Pacific Alliance divided over Peru crisis

When the Pacific Alliance trade bloc, comprising Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru, was established in 2011, its stated goal was to focus on deepening trade and integration rather than succumbing to the fate of so many other regional groupings that have been forged on ideological grounds and lost impetus as the political sands have shifted. It is therefore ironic that the Pacific Alliance has now been plunged into crisis over a dispute that looks eminently ideological.
