The median estimate in the poll was for a primary deficit of R$109.6bn (US$21.1bn) in 2023, down from a median estimate of R$125.9bn in January. The finance ministry also highlighted an improvement in analysts’ expectations for the 2024 primary deficit, with the median estimate now standing at R$96.1bn, down from an estimate of R$118.5bn last month.
