BRAZIL | Eletrobras privatisation. On 7 February President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took aim at last year’s privatisation of Eletrobras, the state-owned electricity company, describing it as “banditry” and “irrational”. The privatisation was completed near the end of the right-wing administration of Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) in June last year for a total value of US$6.9bn.
