Worrying trends in food insecurity and malnourishment have only gotten worse in Latin America, according to the latest regional overview of the region by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), published 18 January. The FAO report showed various Andean countries, such as Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Venezuela, among the countries with particularly high prevalence of several malnourishment indicators. The FAO report went on to describe how different social groups are affected by food insecurity, but also suggested potential solutions to cope with the region’s worsening food crisis.
