Hurricane Ian hit the island in late September 2022, knocking out its power system and causing significant damage. The arrival of the new floating power plant follows agreements reached by Cuba’s President
Miguel Díaz-Canel and his Turkish counterpart
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a visit to Turkey by Díaz-Canel in late November, in a
rare international tour which also took in Russia, China and Algeria.
