On 1 December Ecuador’s mining and energy ministry announced, in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), plans for a roadmap to the production and use of green hydrogen. The main objective of the plan is to create a competitive and environmentally friendly source of energy, in line with global interest in reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. Ecuador’s move to incorporate green hydrogen in its energy portfolio follows a similar decision from Colombia – the Andean country with the clearest plan for green hydrogen, where the ball was set in motion under President Gustavo Petro’s predecessor, Iván Duque (2018-2022).
