In brief: Panama’s exports rise
*Panama’s trade & industry ministry (MICI) has released new figures which show that the country’s exports totalled US$2.47bn in the first eight months of 2022, up nearly 9% on the same period in 2021. According to MICI the leading exports were copper and bananas, accounting for 76.5% and 3.4% respectively of the total, followed by raw teak (1.7%), palm oil (1.4%) and scrap iron and steel (1.2%). The main destinations for the country’s copper exports were China, Japan and South Korea while the main markets for its non-copper exports were the US, the Netherlands, India and China.
