MEXICO: Water shortage underlines need for better resource management

Mexico’s federal water commission (Conagua) declared a national water emergency due to severe drought on 12 July. This means that several water basins in the country are facing an abnormal situation due to low resource levels. As a result, authorities may restrict access to water in order to ensure domestic usage. It also means that Conagua could take over supplying water in those regions where the population is having trouble accessing the resource.
