* Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) has released new figures which show remittances to Mexico totalled US$27.57bn in the first half of 2022, a 16.6% increase on the US$23.65bn received in the same period of 2021. Banxico’s data also shows that remittance in June 2022 totalled US$5.15bn, a yearly increase of 15.6%. This suggests that remittances to Mexico are to reach another record high this year, on track to exceed the US$51.59bn
sent to the country in 2021. However, Mexico’s President
Andrés Manuel López Obrador has warned that remittances to Mexico
could take a hit if the economic situation in the US worsens.
