Dissident forces of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrilla group have come under sustained pressure over the past year, losing a string of top-level commanders. Defence Minister Diego Molano Aponte announced another significant blow on 15 July, stating that Néstor Gregorio Vera Fernández (‘Iván Mordisco’), the leader of a nationwide alliance of dissident Farc units, had been killed in an airstrike in the southern department of Caquetá.
