* Panama’s government led by President Laurentino Cortizo has announced an agreement with protest group Alianza Nacional por los Derechos del Pueblo Organizado (Anadepo) whereby it will reduce fuel prices to US$3.25 per gallon, down from its initial offer of US$3.95 per gallon. According to the government (which, in line with Anadepo’s demands, held dialogue with the group in Santiago, the capital of Veraguas province, where Anadepo is based, rather than the capital), Anadepo has said it will lift blockades of key highways which it has been carrying out as part of nationwide protests in recent days against rising living costs. However, the other main group behind the protests, Alianza Pueblo Unido por la Vida (APUV) which includes the influential construction workers’ union Sindicato Único de la Construcción y Similares (Suntracs) and teachers’ union Asociación de Profesores (Asoprof), among others, has said that the protests will continue.
